It is a matter of great pleasure for me to write this letter of recommendation for Mr. Shubham Arora, who has been my student at NSIT, University of Delhi, from 2016-2017. I have taught him two courses and guided him on his thesis project. From our interactions, I can confidently say that Shubham is an intelligent, sincere and a very consistent student.

When he was a student in my courses, ‘Information System and Data Management’ in his 6th semester and ‘Computer and Translator Design’ in his 7th semester, he was one of the top 2% percentile of the students who performed exceedingly well. While in the lab, he was able to design innovative solutions for the problems and constructively iterate on solutions based on feedback. This showed that he had the capacity to analyze problems intricately and to make realistic trade-offs to reach solutions. He has been an extremely diligent student who completely all assignments well within stipulated deadlines.

I got to know Shubham better when I supervised him in his final semester on his thesis project titled “Adaptive Traffic Light control using Reinforcement Learning”.  He applied Reinforcement Learning to generate dynamic phasing control for traffic lights.  Even though, Reinforcement Learning (RL) was not a course in his syllabus, he took initiative and implemented a robust solution, showcasing a great example of experiential learning.  As a researcher, Shubham demonstrated great ability in being able to understand and make inferences from academic texts. This was evident in the solutions he proposed to the problem statement. He possessed a very agile work ethic, creating a great atmosphere in the team, bringing in new solutions and constantly incorporating feedback. He developed his project in Python and MongoDB, followed good code practices like using a version control system (Git). His code was seamless and very well tested. During the final presentation of his thesis, he took ownership and exhibited very good communication and presentation skills.

Shubham has great potential for further progress in Computer Science. He is highly motivated and possesses strong fundamentals of the subject. He has the required academic ability, mental strength and technical acumen to embark upon a graduate program from a premier institution like yours.

Yours Sincerely,
Dr. Sushma Nagpal
